20 Feb / Aussie chef nominated in multiple Fiji tourism awards

Nadi, Fiji – Thu 20 Feb, 2014

Chef Lance Seeto, the host of Fiji’s top rating TV series “Taste of Paradise” and Executive Chef for Outrigger Hotels and Resort’s Castaway Island Fiji has been nominated for multiple awards in the 2013 AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards tomorrow night. Seeto has been recognized as Fiji’s unofficial culinary ambassador and is credited with pioneering food tourism across the country. The Support and Services to the Tourism Industry nomination is a result of his four year food safari across the country to discover unique flavours and techniques that have been adopted in his regional Fijian cuisine. His support of Fiji’s tourism body, Tourism Fiji, has seen his recipes and cooking appear across the globe on television and print media. When international journalists and gourmet travel agents want to know more about Fijian cuisine, they turn to the Australian chef for his insight. The second nomination is for his latest fusion restaurant, 1808 on Castaway Island Fiji, in the Best Restaurant category. Named after the first year the Chinese first came to Fiji, his unique Fijian Asian fusion menu boasts South Pacific cooking techniques and the flavours of native Fijian, Indian and Chinese. 1808 has been described as a culinary cultural journey of Fiji’s history; the heart and soul of Fiji on a plate. The winners of Fiji’s top tourism awards will be announced at a gala dinner at the Sofitel Resort and Spa Fiji, with special guests including Fiji’s Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism.
